Dare I bring it up again after so many discussions have been had, but I feel if the ABA is going to get more exposure (which I really think it needs right now) the website needs to be more then a blog.
I have stumbled upon a website hosting/building site that may interest you guys. Its really easy to use, as I am building a website for L.S Canvas (thats me) as we speak.
http://www.netregistry.com.au/web-hosting/Economy-Web-Hosting.php
Theres a link to the site. The economy hosting package is suitable for what the ABA would need, allowing pages for photo albums, a blog page (like this one) and many more pages to suit our needs.
Here is my website (isnt finished yet!) to have a look at, so you can get an idea. Like I said, its easy to use and seems pretty cheap.
you also get a heap of email accounts as well.
Let me know what you think, and I will bring it up at the next meeting.
Website would be good, but who is going to maintain it?
and what are we promoting as a club?
PS Thats a very realistic looking bass you made Leigh, what sort of canvas is it made from?

maintaining it is the easy part…it only takes about 20-30mins to create a new page…quicker if you already have the pics uploaded. I would put my hand up for that side of things.
As for promoting…well theres Robina, Bass Classic, Bass Catch, a new activity that the ABA will become involved in (will fill you all in at the meeting). The more general publicity we get, the more active members we may get. Because at the moment, the ABA isnt looking so crash hot.

The ABA has not been looking crash hot for some time. We have had no calender of events for several years.-Whilst it is great io accept a position at an AGM for a particullar position it should also be a requirement to accept a “Position Decription” with each EXECUTIVE POSITION taking the responsibility for their Portfolio. The last MSN site died due to screens not being updated. I for one think that Rob has done a great job keeping the flag flying by starting this site off his own bat & in his own time. I would also point out that he is not on the EXECUTIVE.

Yes, Rob did a good job getting this blog up and running, but if the ABA is going to get back to anywhere near where it once was, it needs more. The MSN site was scrapped due to many complaints about having trouble logging in and no one using it. As it stands this blog gets very little use, and that is hardly anyones fault.
I just feel that we need to upgrade to a proper website if the ABA is going to stay well known public identity. If things continue the way they are, the ABA will become nothing more then a bunch of guys who stock fish in Robina Lakes. No one will know who did it, why it was done or anything like that.
I am not blaming anyone in particular here, just stating what I think is happening to the ABA.
Ian : When you say Rob is not “the EXECUTIVE”, what executive exactly has the website in their portfolio?

maybe we should appoint webmaster to fill that portfolio.
mikey used to be the webmeister and did a good job when he was active but other pursuits seem to have taken his attention now.
i agree that we need a web site, i also agree with ian that the monthly event calendar should be returned, even if only a handful can get to each event. It would be good to be able to plan a few months in advance, that way maybe we’d get more attending.
gee, that took a long time to type one handed

I would happily volunteer for the ‘webmaster’ role within the ABA, as I feel this hosting/building site is great value and I already have a great conecpt on how to build the pages. I will gather all the financial info (costs and so on) and put a motion forward at the meeting that I begin building our new webpage.
The monthly outings has been something that I have missed for a long time now, and I do want them to make a comeback. But as you all know they have fallen to the wayside a little with lack of attendance, lack of destinations and so on. This makes it hard to organise. But if the support is shown, I would gladly, once again, ask for ideas on where/when we could go.
A few facts that you may wish to consider though whilst thinking about the monthly outings.
1) Maroon and Moogerah both have very little water…fishing can be good, but it also can be tough and overcrowded.
2) Hinze is becoming flogged, with access on the Eastern arm ensuring that you will NOT be alone…not matter what time you are on the water. Launching at the Western arm is good for kayaks/canoes…but not everyone has access to such craft.
3) Somerset is still available, so there is one possibilty.
4) Lake McDonald is stuffed after the massive floods that went through the area a few months ago. Locals are reporting very few fish, which could take years to recover.
5) A river trip is always an option, but once again, not everyone has access to canoes/kayaks.
6) Clarrie Hall is great for a day trip, but the whole gate situation means its a late start and an early finish…that makes it a long way to travel to miss the peak hours of fishing…especially in the summer months.
7) Some of our members simply cant make it to the outings on a monthly basis…would we be better off having them bi-monthly?
My email address is jmed@optusnet.com.au if you have any destinations/times in mind please email them to me. It would be fair to say that most people have already been committed to christmas activites, so lets aim for the first outing to be held in late January. If we make the outings the last weekend of the month, that will make dates an easy fix.
This is part of the reason why I think we need a new proper website, not just a blog-site. The more exposure we get, the more active members we may get. This may, in turn, increase the amount of members we see at each outing. Whilst the blog-site is enabling us to chat to one another, but it doesnt let the public see what we do as a group.
Advertising for such activities would be a breeze, as most of us are members of other fishing forums that have anglers based in the gold-coast/brissy area.
I am also a big fan of getting another ‘junior day’ up and running. Maybe for early in the new year. Come to think of it, its doesnt really have to be a junior day, it could be aimed at anyone wishing to learn more about our native fish and the methods we use to catch them.
